VETMEDIN is indicated to be administered twice a day as part of an ongoing care plan. As with all medications, always follow your veterinarian's directions.
Two forms available
VETMEDIN® (pimobendan) Chewable Tablets or VETMEDIN® Solution (pimobendan oral solution)—choose what your dog will take reliably.
With food?
VETMEDIN Chewable Tablets can be given with food. If you use the oral solution, do not mix it with your dog’s food. Follow your veterinarian’s directions.

Chewable Tablets
VETMEDIN Chewable Tablets are beef-flavored and half-scored to meet the dosing needs of patients who prefer chews.

Oral Solution
VETMEDIN Oral Solution is flavorless for
dogs who prefer a liquid medication.
- Precise, by‑weight dosing using the supplied syringe

Chewable Tablets
Give as directed by your veterinarian, twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart
Missed dose:
If you miss a dose, do not double up next time. Give the next dose as scheduled and contact your veterinarian for guidance.

Many dogs take VETMEDIN with food, but always follow
your veterinarian’s instructions for your dog.
Oral Solution: Administer directly into the mouth. Do not mix into food.
Chewable Tablets: May be given with food unless your vet advises otherwise.
If your dog has tummy upset, ask your veterinarian about giving with a small amount of food.

Dog spits out the chewable
Try a small treat after dosing or a different routine. If it keeps happening, ask your vet about the Oral Solution.
Dog refuses the syringe
Try slower administration at the cheek pocket. Ask your vet for handling tips or if tablets may work better.
Vomiting or drooling after dosing
Pause and contact your veterinarian for guidance before giving another dose.
Unsure about the dose
Check your vet's instructions. For Oral Solution, use only the supplied syringe. When in doubt, call your clinic.
Ran out or short on tablets/solution
Contact your veterinarian or pharmacy before the next scheduled dose.
Important Safety Information
VETMEDIN® (pimobendan) Chewable Tablets and VETMEDIN® Solution (pimobendan oral solution) are for use only in dogs with clinical evidence of heart failure. The most common side effects reported in field studies were poor appetite, lethargy, diarrhea, dyspnea, azotemia, weakness, and ataxia. VETMEDIN® should not be given in case of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, aortic stenosis, or any other clinical condition where an augmentation of cardiac output is inappropriate for functional or anatomical reasons.

VETMEDIN®-CA1 (pimobendan) are for use only in dogs with preclinical MMVD that have a moderate or loud mitral murmur due to mitral regurgitation and cardiomegaly (Stage B2 MMVD, 2019 ACVIM Consensus Statement1). VETMEDIN®-CA1 is conditionally approved by FDA pending a full demonstration of effectiveness under application number 141-556. A diagnosis of MMVD should be made by means of a comprehensive physical and cardiac examination, which should include radiography and echocardiography. The most common side effects seen in dogs with Stage B2 MMVD while taking VETMEDIN®-CA1 Chewable Tablets are cough, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy and localized pain (such as in the neck or legs). Adverse reactions not related to disease progression in dogs receiving VETMEDIN®-CA1 included diarrhea, vomiting, pain, lameness, arthritis, urinary tract infection, and seizure.
